Grand Opening Was Held On Saturday, June 25, 2005  

After 2 1/2 years of hard work and unprecedented community support, the Glidden Aquatic Center opened to the public on Monday, May 30, 2005.

The new pool features a diving area, zero depth entry, plume slide, play structure and a new bathhouse.  Christiansen Construction from Pender, Nebraska was the general contractor.  They did a super job of getting things done and allowing the pool to open as promised, on Memorial Day weekend. In 2006, a family slide was added. In 2007, two coolbrellas were added. As the pictures of opening day show, everyone is enjoying the new facility.  “The attitudes and faces of the kids really show how worthwhile this project was!”, commented Bill Bluml, a member of the GDG and the Glidden Pool Board.

Daily attendance at the pool has set new all-time records since opening.

The City of Glidden held a Grand Opening Ceremony at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at the pool.  The public was invited to attend!  Members of the Haggai Masonic Lodge and the Grand Lodge of Iowa dedicated the new facility with a cornerstone a there were brief remarks by officials attending. 

An all day “Beach Party” was held following the formal program and admission to the pool was 50¢ for the day (just like the old days when the original pool was built in Glidden).  The Pool Board served lunch beginning at 11:00 AM till the food ran out. 

We would like to thank all of the individuals, families and businesses that donated to the pool project!  Without such strong community support from Glidden and surrounding towns, the pool project would not have the success that we are seeing today. 

The city continues to solicit donations to complete the full project.  Plans call for the addition of a drop slide as funds become available.

The Aquatic Center is open daily from 12:00 Noon to 7:00 PM and is located at 704 Arizona Street (corner of Arizona and U.S. Highway 30 on west edge of town).  Admission Prices:  Family Membership = $120.00 --- Single Membership = $80.00 --- Daily Admission = 4.00 .  Admission prices are the same for residents and non-residents of Glidden.  For more information call the Aquatic Center at (712) 659-2261 or Glidden City Hall at (712) 659-3010.
